Yes, I was on my bike on Times Square, Manhattan, New York! The ones who have visited Manhattan know that there are only crazy people who go on motorcycles into the middle of the city where the traffic is the heaviest. And I positive that Ill never do that again. We rode into the middle of the city and down Manhattan Island and back. Its only around 7 km each way but we were at least 1.5 hours doing that. The traffic was terrible, endless stoplights and everything was really slow. We decided to ride down to the sea so we could the statue of liberty and get some photos there. But that wasnt as easy as we had hoped. We ended up sneaking into a private parking lot for the coastguard. There was a large restaurant there with a large parking area which went down to the sea. Einar went on his bike while I got the camera ready, and Einar then took the bike to the parking area and I followed him with the camera like a paparazzi. We had a lot of fun there. When we got back to Times Square, we just parked up on the pavement and just got lucky that there were no cops there. We then took some pictures there and enjoyed that very much. Next, we rode down to the airport where Halldr, an Icelandair Cargo employee, greeted us and got the bikes and the papers ready. So the bikes are now on their way to Iceland and we have ridden around the world, believe it or not. I dont really believe it either. But thats not entirely true though because we have those 50 km left from Keflavk to Reykjavk. But we have finished our travels in foreign countries now. After we gave away the bikes today, after a hard day, we had a moment of anticlimax. I experienced a feeling I just cant explain. I just got speachless and the exhaustion was poured over me. A part of all the stress, that went away today, was the worries about getting in some kind an accident. It would be increadibly disappointing to have an accident when you are just about finishing the trip! Of course we would probably solve all problems like usual, but Im just getting so excited to get home! There so little left. We land in Keflavk on Friday and then theres nothing left but to ride to Reykjavk and finish the journey formally. Its going to be a lot of fun and I really hope that Ill see some people who want to ride with us these last kilometers and thereby experience a small part of the dream that was so distant a couple of years ago. Exact times will be known soon. The km counter is now at 31.860. I dont think there are many others that have travelled 31.860 km on a motorcycle the last 90 days?! There are some new pictures in the album...more tomorrow. - Sverrir

Dad and Skli are now in New York but they took the bus from Washington DC today and it took 5 hours.Einar and I are in a small town called Burlington which is 130 km from New York. We'll go to New York tomorrow where we'll ride down Times Square and down to the harbor. We will then leave our bikes at the airport. We went a road this morning called Skyline drive and it's increadably beautiful and it is on top of the mountain hills. It took 2 years to build this road (1933 - 1935) and what's interesting about this road are the stone blocks that hold the road up on the mountain hills. A lot of work was clearly put into building this road. When the road was built, you could see the road almost from anywhere but now there is so much vegetation there that you can only see the trees. But anyway, dad and Skli have finished their journey which was riding across America and riding the famous Route 66.

Waynesboro, Virginia, USA.

Alltaf stll pabba erum vi komnir yfir austurstrndina og Harley brur um a bil a ljka snum fanga feralaginu. Now we are finally on the east coast and the Harley brothers have just about finished their part of their journey. We have only around 200 km to the North where they have to return their bikes and by doing that, fulfilling their dream of riding Route 66 across America. This is a pretty big thing for them and they are really happy tonight. Many people dream about this for decates but maybe dont get themselves to actually do it. Even the Americans weve met think this is a great thing that theyre doing. They just proved that its never too late to fulfill your dream. But were now in a small town called Waynesboro in Virginia. One of thousands of such towns so I cant really say that theres anything special about this one other than its beautiful and quiet. We will follow a fun road tomorrow wich was recommended to us. Its a part of a route called Blue Ridge Parkway, and lies from North to South around Blue Mountain range. Dr. Gumundur and his pals rode this way in 2004 and its supposed to be very beautiful and fun to ride. Im looking forward to it. We rode around 460 km today in a beautiful landscape. Forests, rivers and beautiful hills. The weather was similar to last days weather, hot and humid so were drinking fluids a lot. After Einar and I will follow our dad and Skli to the motorcycle rental, they will take a bus to New York where theyll meet their wifes who arrived there today. Einar and I, on the other hand, will ride to New York but well have to hand over our bikes on Monday for the flight. We will then spend 2 days in New York before we fly home and finish the trip. Im getting pretty excited! But before we give up the bikes were going to try to ride dorn Manhattan in New York! You dont get that opportunity every day, to ride your bike down Times Square! But well see what happens. Ttyl - Sverrir

Hot and humid describes our day. Incrediable humidity and the heat almost intolerable. I became all wet and hot because of the sweat and the same story can be told of my pals. The heat can be difficult and the older guys really felt that today. Later this day we got heavy rain and it was rather hard even though it wasn't for long. Einar was a leader today and he quickly decided to stop somy dad and Skuli could put their rainclothes on. I decided not to do that and simply get wet. It didnt bother me to get wet because of the heat. But dad and Skuli had cotton t-shirts and jackets on and therefore they got extremely wet.Einar and I dont never wear anything made of cotton because that isnt good fabric for travelling in. We only use clothesand that counts also the underwear, made of polyester or wool.I have been using a wool underwear thewhole time andwhat a greatdifferance. To wearright clothes can makea bigdifferance, especially on a long trip. As I have mentioned beforemost of the Americans I have met on motorcycles are only wearing t-shirts andjeans and we sawmany of them rather poor looking and wetwhen this suddenly heavy rain startedtoday. Me and Einar now this know and especially after the trip across Russia and Mongolia. As many of you know, being thirsty isnt necessarily the right mesarue of if your body need water or not. Once I fell of my motorcycle in Russia on a bad countryroad and after I had stood up I knew I had fell becauseI was in a lack of water ! Because of the heat and tireness I had lost my concentration and hadnt drunk enough water that day. So that was our lesson and therefore me and Einar made sure it didn't happen again. But my dad and Skuli arent used to ride in such a heat as we are getting now so we are constanstly reminding them to drink water. Very important. But one more day has past and the destination is getting closer. A little bit weird feeling.

I was rather sleepy this night (3.15 am) at the radio. I got this question if we had met some icelanders on our trip around the world. I said I had met one or two but that isn't of course right and I have to correct that here and now. Me and Einar have met a lot of icelanders on our way and to start with we met icelanders in the consulate in Faroe Islands. Next we met the icelandic embassador and his assistance in Helsinki Finland. Then we met Einar's friend in Tallin Estonia. Then we met Thor Danielsson in Ulaan Baator in Mongolia. In Japan we had a meeting with icelandairs in the embassy in Tokyo. And when we came til the USA we met a lot of icelanders in the Icelandic day in Blaine and there I mentioned Hafdisi especially. Then we met Egill "Eagle" Egilsson in Los Angeles and that was memorable. And now we just met our aunt Anna Helgadottir but she lives in Tulsa Oklahoma and then I think a haven't forgot nobody. But I was probably thinking if we had met some icelandairs as travellers when I got this question but all the icelanders we have met work or live in the countries visited. But enough regarding thisbut it has been very nice and memorable to meet all these people. But now we are in Evansville in Indiana and the trip to here wasrather one-sided. We roderather fast today and decided to not stop as much as before. We decided to take one day like this and let the Harleybrothers getthe feeling and experience of the adventure as me and Einar have had the last weeks and months in our trip. As to say not toride as a tourists if you know what I mean. To them it was fun and they mentioned that it obviouslyharder than you thinkto travel like this for manydays and weeks. Many questions can arise and lot of matters have to be solved. But it did also matter that now we got that information that me and Einar have to take the motorcycles to the airport - Icelandic cargonext monday. But before that we have to followthe Harleybrothers to Wasington were they have to return their motorcycles and therefrom they will take the bus to NewYork but we will ride on to the city. So times fly and we have to be focused the next days so we can finish our last days here in USA with safety. This day today was rather hot and moistured and it was rather difficult to ride today. Shower, cold beer and something to eat and we were all happy in the end of the day. Tomorrow will be similar. It is unbelievable to think that there areonly 4 days left in our trip here ! And 50 kmto Reykjavk from Keflavkto close the circle !!! Unbelievable but true ! The counter isat 30.000 km today! That would be 120.000 km in a year! In the end, some useless information for you all. Einar was calculating that in the end of our trip has the rare tire rotated 15.000.000 circles and the enginehas runca.120.000.000-130.000.000 circles !! So there you have that. If you doubt that, calculate for yourself and/or ask Einar when we have arrived home ! Wink But until next time.

Oh what a beautiful morning,
Oh what a beautiful day,
I've got a wonderful feeling,
Everything's going my way

These lyrics went through my head when I woke up this morning but its from the musical Oklahoma but Rodgers and Hammerstein. But this is just how I felt when I was riding this morning alone on the bike. We were still in Oklahoma and it was a beautiful day, a little bit misty and the lighting was extraordinary. I started thinking about how well this trip has gone for us so far (knock on wood). All the problems we have experienced have been minor and we could solve it pretty easily. Nothing serous has happened to us so far and I sure hope that it will stay that way. Its not a sure thing to get the whole way without having serous problems. But anyway, the breakfast was simple this morning, Cheerios and milk, and we started riding at around 7 am. We rode to Tulsa on the old route 66. We stopped in Tulsa because my father was having problems with his phone. After wer fixed that, we visited our aunt, Anna Helgadttir, and her family. She and her daughter Helga were the only ones at home but it was a lot of fun meeting them. Anna used to babysit me when I was a little boy but I hadnt seen her since. Tulsa is a beautiful city and Anna lives in a really nice neighbourhood with her family. After saying goodbye we kept on going eastwards and we passed through a coupole of small towns wich was fun. We ended the day in Springfield, Missoury. Its the 3rd largest town/city in the state of Missoury, around 150.000 people. The temperature and the humidity was high and it was pretty hard riding in this heat and it was probably harder for the Harley brothers. I changed the oil on my bike today and its in good shape now. The km counter is now at 29.548. Finally, everybody remember to show up at Keflavk, the 10th of August so you can ride with us the final kilometers home. Ill put in an exact time soon. Theres no excuses, just show up and ride with us ;) ttyl - Sverrir

I got this increadable feeling this morning when we were riding in a beautiful landscape, with the wind in our backs and the temperature being just right. It was a feeling of extreme happyness and freedome which floated all around my body and you forget the current time and place and just enjoy that exact moment. I have this feeling once in a while and its always just as nice as before. But anyway, we woke up early and began riding towards Cadillac Ranch which is an artwork made in 1974 and its just west of Amarillo in Texas. This piece of art is made out of 10 Cadillac cars that have been put half into the ground and are lined up that way. The funny thing is that you dont need more than this to get millions of people there to see it. If was fun seeing it though but after that we walked through Amarillo and out to the eastern suburbs where we saw the famous steakhouse, The big texan steak ranch. This steakhouse is concidered one of the top 10 steahouses in America and its also where you can get the famous 72 oz steak! If you can finish the steak within an hour you get it for free. Around 40.000 people have tried it but only around 7.000 people have actually finished it. Because I was there around 11:30 am I wasnt up to the task. Itll have to wait better times. But I had a big steak though because you just couldnt get anything else, I mean, you cant be in one of the best steakhouses in America and order something other than a steak! But noooooo, my father and Skli ordered chicken! No, Im not joking, they ordered chicken which I found ridicilous and Einar and I have been making fun of them since and probably will keep doing that for the next few years. But after that stop we kept on riding eastwards and followed route 66 most of the way. We passed a few small town that were beautiful and fun to watch. We then leaved Texas and entered Oklahoma. Were now in a small town called Chandler and we passed Oklahoma City on our way to here. The landscape was pretty much the same the whole way, lots of big plains, but it was fun anyway. We also had some pouring rain for a while and since nobody had rainclothes on we got soaking wet. But the temperature was high so it wasnt cold at all. Today had been fun and I just want to say one thing before I go:- Traveling on a motorcycle is fantastic and everybody who have the opportunity should at least try it. But thats enough for now. The km counter is at 29.085 and I put some pictures in the album. Ttyl - Sverrir

Route 66. I am always writing about route 66 but do you all know what route 66 is ? Many people think that route 66 is one road whichlies acrossthe USA. But it isnt like that. In the early 20 century were many disorderly roads here in the USA, many of them were ok but many of them were not in good situation and even that bad that they were more like paths. When the number of cars increased and more and more demandsaroused about having better roads the states started to build better roads. To make things easier for travellers and others who had to travel a long way they made this markingsystem. This markingsystem was to connect all those different roads which already existed and mark them with one same number. Thats how route 66 came into beeing this famous road everybody knows now and these roads were connected and lied from Chicago, Illinois to Las Vegas, California. So the travellers who planed to go across the country just had to follow this number and then they could reach their destination without getting lost. So route 66 isnt one road, instead it is many roads. Today many of those old roads have disapearred and highways have come instead but you can find an orginal route 66 here and there. The route lies through 8 states. They are Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. Will will probably ride through 5 or 6 of them before heading to Washington. But we will see. On the other hand, not so much happened today other than we rode through a very beautiful indinan/cowboy landscape around the town Tucumcari were wewill staytonight. Here in this area many movies have been filmed. We rode about 560 km today and had to take a little detour because of an accident on a highway here a little west. A big truck and a familycar and one child dead. Very tragic ! Luckely I havent see so many accident on my way but me and Einar have seen in the distance at least 3 motorcyclesaccident. It is difficult to see that happen. Many of these drivers are very bad dressed and many of them even dont wear helmets. I decided always to wear a helmet and have my specially made motorcycle clothes on. It can be very hot to wear the jacket but if something happens it could make the difference. I cant allow myself to be careless. I have my family waiting for me at home and ofcourse a have duties to myself and them. But everybody have to find their own way to this securitythings and this is my way. But good for now. ttyl.

Now Im in the lands of Indians and cowboys. There are many indians here in Gallup from different tribes but the Mohave is the biggest. When we came to New Mexico today it was like we were in the middle of a western movie. I even read today that a mountain hill that we passed today has been used as a background in many movies! But we started the day early and we were heading towards Grand Canyon. It took us about an hour to get there and the weather was good, a little cloudy but bright and beautiful. The traffic was light, probably because of how early we were there. We payed to get into the area and soon we were right on the edge of the canyon. And what an experience! It was increadibly huge and this was the kind of experience that I will never forget. Sometimes you experience something that really surprises you, even if youve read about it and seen pictures. This was that kind of an experience. But after our stop and the Grand Canyon, we rode out on the plain again. Really great plains where the highway floats through like a calm river. We are still on Route 66 and there are a lot of interesting things around us that we try to take a look at when we get the change. The bikes are doing a good job and everything is working fine. But its strange to think about that Ill be home in just 12 days! After all this time traveling Ive got to admit, itll be great to get home to my family. 12 days is not a long time compared to the 80 days weve been traveling for. But Im not going to talk about that anymore, first we have to finish the trip. The km counter is now at 27828. Enough for today...p.s. just put in some new pictures! Ttyl - Sverrir
